Ward Security was appointed in May 2014 to manage the security of VIRTUS’s very prestigious and highly sensitive LONDON1 data centre site.  The facility was opened in 2011 and is strategically located in Enfield, to be within easy reach of the M25 and central London.  The building is home to a state-of-the-art data centre, designed to be scalable and provide highly reliable colocation services.

Over the last few years, the demand for colocation data centre space has increased, driven largely by enhanced and more stable internet capabilities. This in turn has led to increased confidence in the cloud, positively impacting the rise of the number of new cloud related businesses. More significantly, however, it has also seen increased uptake of cloud services from mid-to-large size organisations willing to entrust their IT to the cloud, outsourcing the bulk of the day-to-day logistical IT functions, and enabling IT managers to focus on issues more critical to the business.

Delivering 4.2MW of IT power and providing 33,000 sq ft of net customer data space the VIRTUS LONDON1 site operates a uniquely flexible service where customers can rent space of any size from a rack up to a suite by the day, week, month or a decade depending on their changing requirements. Clearly, customers rely on the tightest secure facilities and the provision of a slick, efficient security service is managed by Ward Security.

Ward Security was appointed by Norland to secure this site, after the company had previously demonstrated a solid track record at a different data centre site.  In addition, the company has a reputation for investing in training and maintaining the highest professional standards.  Excellence in people management being a key core value of the business reflected in the fact that Ward Security is the only security company in the UK to hold the prestigious Investors in People Gold Award, an accolade it has held since 2012.  The company’s 2014 audit by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) Approved Contractor Scheme also reported a near perfect score and places Ward Security in the Top 10 companies in the UK.

The LONDON1 site is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days of the year.  Ward Security operates this site with six designated security guards who manage a shift system and ensure at all times no one can gain unauthorised access.    The access system involves clients requesting access before arrival and a bespoke ticket being issued which must be supplied along with photo identification such as a passport or driving licence before access to the site will be given.

The team also patrols the site internally as well as externally and a device is used to register every patrol completed in live time.  This means approved personnel can logon at any time and view where the officer is patrolling in the building.

Kevin Ward, Executive Director at Ward Security said “Our experience and professional expertise in managing high profile sites that need extremely tight securing means we are recognised on our ability to consistently deliver an excellent service as well as be an extremely competent and safe pair of hands.”
